Buildings across Jersey light up purple for Action on Stroke Month

Fort Regent Dome, Mont Orgueil Castle and Victoria College in Jersey will all be lighting up purple during the month of May for Action on Stroke Month. The buildings have agreed to help raise awareness of stroke and join the Stroke Association to Make May Purple.

Throughout the month there are a number of events planned on the Island. Tracy O’Regan from the Stroke Association said, “A stroke happens in an instant but its effects can last a lifetime. There are around 152,000 strokes in the UK every year and unfortunately a stroke still takes a life every 13 minutes. The Stroke Association organises Action on Stroke Month each year to raise awareness of the impact of stroke and raise funds to help continue stroke research.”

“We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us and will support us throughout the month” adds Tracey.

The lighting up of Mont Orgueil Castle has been arranged by Deputy Edward James Noel, Minister of Transport and Technical Services. The Head teacher of Victoria College, Mr Alun Watkins, has agreed to light up the main hall Purple with the help of CFM Electrical Contractors who are donating the purple film for the lights and fitting it for free. Mr Watkins said; “Victoria College is delighted to support Action on Stroke Month 2015! We believe that it is important for people of all ages to know about stroke, including our students. The iconic main building will be illuminated in purple at night throughout the month of May to help stroke receive the attention it deserves.”
