Burnham septuagenarian walks 268 miles in memory of his wife
A Burnham resident is walking 268 miles over 22 days to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.
Mic Hall, 76, was inspired to take on the Pennine Way trail in Scotland, after his wife Joy had a stroke in 2007 and sadly passed away in 2016. Mic began his walk on Thursday 1 June and will finish on Thursday 22 June.
Mic said: “When my darling wife Joy had a stroke we didn’t know what hit us. The Stroke Association’s voluntary carer group provided me with so much support, information and advice, as well as the invaluable opportunity to socialise with others in the same situation.
“Over the years we learned to adapt into our new family life, all the way supported by the Chiltern Stroke Club, and we couldn't be more thankful for this.
“A year ago we lost my beloved Joy. Through the heartache of losing my best friend, the Chiltern Stroke Club have still been there for me. I wanted to take on this challenging walk to give something back to everyone who has supported me.
“I am not young at 78, but I give it my all! This is not an easy walk as it has substantial inclines to negotiate, but I know Joy will be with me every step of the way.”
Natalie Bettinson, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With more than 100,000 strokes in the UK each year, it’s vital that we have people like Mic to help raise vital funds. The money raised will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke and their families and carers, as well as helping to prevent people from having a stroke.
“We will be cheering Mic on as he makes his way across Pennine Way.We know the Chiltern Stroke Club can’t wait to hear about his adventure.”
