Press release -

Daughter of stroke survivor takes on Resolution Run to raise funds for charity

Kate Renton’s Dad had a stroke in December last year. This came completely out of the blue. Following a back operation two years ago he had been receiving regular medical checks and was otherwise fit and healthy.

Kate is now running the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run to raise funds for the charity and increase awareness of stroke.

Kate is only too aware of the devastating effects of stroke. She says:

“My dad had to learn how to walk again for the second time and now he walks with a stick. The stroke affected his mobility and his speech and has had a big impact on his confidence. The effects of a stroke can be cruel.

He is motivated and is working hard to improve his strength, mobility and fully recover his speech. It is a hard journey that he is on and he still has a way to go. The whole family is delighted he is with us here today.

Strokes happen to people of all ages, I want to raise awareness of that, and also of how important it is to treat strokes as quickly as possible, to minimise long term problems. I want to do as much as I can to help people like my dad whose life changed in an instant.”

Angie Macleod, Communications Manager at the Stroke Association in Scotland said:

“Kate is very aware of the devastating effects of a stroke. She is determined to increase stroke awareness and wants to help support those who have had strokes through her fundraising efforts. I wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her on the day.”

The Stroke Association’s Glasgow Resolution Run 2018 takes place on Sunday 11 March at Glasgow Green.
