Elland Estate Agent fundraising for stroke in memory of mum
Elland estate agent Ami Baxter is raising vital funds for the Stroke Association in memory of her mother, by donating £5 to the charity for every house she sells.
Ami Baxter, 28, is the recent owner of Dawson & Baxter Estate Agents, based on Southgate in Elland. Ami’s mum Sue had a major stroke in December 2013 caused by a bleed on the brain, when she was just 65. After 16 weeks in hospital, Sue sadly passed away, leaving Ami devastated.
Ami said: “It was absolutely heart-breaking. After my mum had her stroke, it was like she was a different person; it had affected her mentally. Her characteristics changed which was extremely hard to accept. I often slept by my mum’s bedside while she was in hospital. It was so sad to see patients on the ward who had been affected by stroke so severely, and in many different ways.
“Before it happened, I didn’t know much about a stroke apart from having seen the FAST advert on television, so I’m keen to raise awareness to help others have more of an understanding. The passion I have for buying and selling houses is even bigger now I donate to a cause that is close to my heart each time I sell a house. The Stroke Association is an incredible charity and helps support stroke survivors and their families.”
Jo Beverley, Regional Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every three and a half minutes - it is vital that we have people like Ami who can raise funds for people affected by stroke. We’re really grateful to her for choosing to support us and we wish her the very best of luck with her new venture.”
Ami is also celebrating the launch of the charity partnership with a purple themed open evening at the Dawson & Baxter office on Friday 10 April when she will open the doors to clients, friends and business associates from 5pm onwards.
