Press release -

Local Petersfield running club team up to support Make May Purple

A women’s running club in Petersfield is inviting local residents to join them on a 5k run at Petersfield Heath on Saturday 20 May, to help Make May Purple for stroke.

The team, named runnyhoneys, was created to help women in the area enjoy running and get active. For the past three years the club has supported the Stroke Association’s national awareness month Make May Purple.

Sue Browne, running leader and Head Honey said: “We all agreed that raising money for charity would help keep us motivated throughout year, and The Stroke Association is a cause that’s close to all our hearts. Knowing that the funds we’ll raise will help other families affected by stroke will spur us on across the finish line.

“We’re calling out to the local community to come and join us on the day. Each year we dig out all our purple gear and have lots of fun. We hope to see as many local residents sign up to help us turn the Heath purple for stroke!”

The event takes place in Make May Purple, the Stroke Association’s national stroke awareness month. Across the UK, more than a million people are rebuilding their lives after stroke. By supporting Make May Purple you are can help us to make sure stroke gets the attention it deserves and to raise vital funds for innovative research into stroke care and treatment.

The charity will also be offering free blood pressure checks and more information about stroke for local residents. Mandy Souter, Six Month Review Coordinator at the Stroke Association, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the runnyhoneys for choosing to support the Stroke Association. The funds raised will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke, and their families and carers, as well as help to prevent people from having a stroke.”
