Local stroke group invites people to Give a Hand and Bake for the Stroke Association
The Mackem Life after Stroke Group is holding an event at Dovecote Meadow, Sunderland on Thursday 25 October, to support the Stroke Association’s latest fundraising initiative: Give a Hand and Bake.
Give a Hand and Bake calls on people to host their own bake sale, all with the aim of raising some serious dough. The money raised will help fund world-leading research that will help to save lives and change the story for stroke survivors. This year, thousands of people across the UK will be donning their aprons for Give a Hand and Bake Week, which runs from 22 to 28 October 2018.
Among them will be stroke survivors from the Mackem Life after Stroke Group, who are rolling up their sleeves, grabbing a mixing bowl and baking to raise vital funds. The group will be opening their doors to local residents to come and enjoy a slice of cake.
Fliss Hunter-Nott, Volunteering and Community Officer from the Stroke Association, said: “Give a Hand and Bake Week is a fun, and delicious, way to support our charity’s work. We fund research into stroke treatment and care and support stroke survivors with their recovery. This includes our latest online tool, My Stroke Guide, which provides round-the-clock advice, information and support for stroke survivors, their family and carers.
“We’d love people in Sunderland to bake up a storm with friends, family or colleagues for Give a Hand and Bake. Whether you’re a baking beginner or a seasoned chef, you prefer to bake brownies for the office or hosting afternoon tea for friends and family, there are lots of ways your baking can rise to the challenge.”
The Mackem Life after Stroke Group’s bake sale will be held on Thursday 25 October from 1:30pm – 3:30pm at Dovecote Meadow, Sunderland.
