Local woman set to host health fair for the Stroke Association

Lisa Murray, 42, from Nottingham, is hosting a health and wellbeing event on Wednesday 28 February to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association, after her mother survived a stroke.

Lisa is inviting local residents to join her at Ravenshead Village Hall from 7pm-9pm. Guests can enjoy Thai Chi and leadership coaching, as well as cake stalls, refreshments and a raffle.

Lisa was inspired to organise the event after her mother, Pauline Pestell, had a stroke in 2012. Lisa said: “My mum’s stroke resulted in her losing the movement on her right hand side, as well as affecting her speech and memory. Although there are still signs of the stroke, she has made a remarkable recovery. The Stroke Association is a cause that’s close to my heart, so I wanted to organise the fair to help other families affected by stroke to get the support they need.

“For me, the event is also about raising awareness of healthy lifestyle choices so that as many people as possible know how they can help to prevent a stroke. I’d encourage everyone from Nottingham and the surrounding areas to come along to what is shaping up to be a great evening.”

Lucy Burnip, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With more than 100,000 strokes in the UK each year, it’s vital we have people like Lisa to help raise funds. We’re incredibly grateful to her for fundraising for us; the money raised will go a long way in helping to support others who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.”
