Morrisons team pedal to fundraising success for the Stroke Association

Staff from Morrisons in Speke have raised over £600 for the Stroke Association after a member of staff had a stroke.

The store presented Robin Foxon, Communication Support Coordinator from the Stroke Association, with the funds raised on Monday 16 October.

Staff took on the fundraising challenge by pedalling a smoothie bike in store and handing out fresh fruit smoothies to customers in return for a donation. They also dressed as clowns throughout the day to drum up further support.

The team was inspired to hold the event, after the store’s People Manager, Julie Lamb had a stroke in January this year. Julie is recovering well, although progress is slow.

Julie’s clerk Sarah Burns organised the fundraiser. She said: “Julie’s stroke happened out of the blue, and made us all realise that a stroke can happen to anyone at any time. After she had lots of support from the Stroke Association, we chose to raise vital funds and help others affected by stoke to get the support they need. We were very lucky to have the smoothie bike from Urban Smoothie Bike Hire and ESL Event Services Liverpool on the day, which made our fundraising efforts such a success. I think the fact we were dressed as clowns made a big difference too!”

Rebecca Owen, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 1.2 million people across the UK living with the devastating impact of stroke it is vital that we have people like the team from Morrisons to raise funds and help us conquer stroke. We’re really grateful to them for their amazing efforts. The money raised will help the charity fund vital research, support people affected and prevent stroke.”
