New stroke group launched for stroke survivors in St Helens
The Stroke Association has launched a new art group which will support people affected by stroke in St Helens.
The group meets every other Thursday at United Reformed Church from 10:30am to 12:00pm. The art therapy workshops offer local stroke survivors the chance to explore an artistic technique called fabric decoupage.
Vicky Thomson, Support Coordinator at the Stroke Association said: “Art therapy can help stroke survivors build their confidence and express themselves in new ways. We see the overwhelming courage and determination many stroke survivors show in coping with the loss of different skills that we take for granted.
“Passsoul Studio Services CIC are kindly running the art group, and have exciting plans to work with stroke survivors in creating fabric decoupage pictures of St Helens landmarks, such as St Helens Dream sculpture and the St Helens Friends meeting house. We’re so excited to see the artwork which is produced by group members and hope to showcase them in the summer.”
The next group will meet on Thursday 14 February at United Reformed Church from 10:30am to 12:00pm. For more information about group, please contact the Stroke Association’s St Helens’ team on: 01744 646160.
