Press release -
Stroke survivor takes on 12 hour darts marathon for charity
Abbey Hulton stroke survivor, Richard Tabbernor, will be throwing arrows in a mammoth 12 hour darts marathon this Sunday, to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.
Richard, 46, of Newstead Road, will join other competitors from 12pm-12pm on Sunday 03 September, at Trent Tavern, to raise money for the charity which supported him after his strokes.
Richard has survived three strokes from 2010 to 2015, which affected his hearing and the left side of his body. He previously organised a darts marathon back in 2015, which was a resounding success and he was keen to organise a second event.
Richard said: “My last charity darts marathon was a huge success and I wanted to do it again to say thank you to the Stroke Association for being there for me at some of the hardest days of my life. The Stroke Association has got me back on my feet. If it wasn’t for the local team it would be a very different story.
“I’ve always loved to play darts and wanted to raise money doing something that involves the local community and a much loved sport. Having a stroke can be really frightening, but I hope that by raising money at the Stoke darts marathon, the Stroke Association can continue to help conquer stroke.”
Abi Floyd, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “We owe big thanks to Richard for choosing to support the Stroke Association. We are a charity that relies on people like Richard to raise funds, and the money raised will go a long way in helping to prevent strokes and reduce their effect through campaigning, education and research. The funds will also help to support the 120,000 people adjusting to a life after stroke in the West Midlands.”
Richard’s 12 hour dart marathon is free for the public to come along to. For more information about the day, please call Richard on: 0759 800 2549
