Surrey resident set for a 250 mile cycle for the Stroke Association

A Farnham artist is gearing up to take part in 250 mile cycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia in November, to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.

Rosie Baxter, 56, was inspired to take on the challenge on Monday 13 November, after a close friend and neighbour had a severe stroke this year.

Rosie said: “Strokes have touched my family over the years. Not only did my mother and father have a stroke, but so did my father-in-law, our neighbour, and now a close family friend. Stroke is so sudden and has really left us all devastated.

“I wanted to do something for the Stroke Association because I don’t believe anyone should be left without support after a stroke. The charity do such a marvellous job to support stroke survivors and their families, and I know just how vital that care is in times of need."

“This is a huge challenge for me; I’ve never done anything like this! I will be cycling over six days, and some of those days I’ll be on my bike for nine hours in the heat. I’m so determined to do this and cross the finish line. I’ve been training for the last six months; I really want to make my family proud, and do my bit for stroke survivors and their loved ones.”

Becky Beard, Community Events and Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 1.2 million people across the UK living with the devastating impact of stroke, it is vital that we have people like Rosie to raise funds and help us conquer stroke. The money raised will fund vital research and support for stroke survivors, as well as help to prevent people from having a stroke.”
