Tewkesbury runner goes the extra mile for the Stroke Association
A Tewkesbury resident is taking on the Great North Run on Sunday 10September to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.
Chris Powell, 49, was inspired to sign up to the run after his father had a stroke last December, and sadly passed away on New Year’s Day.
Chris said: “My father’s stroke was such a shock; he was such a loving man. I decided to support the Stroke Association as I want to raise awareness about this cruel condition, and as much money as I can to help support other families like mine.
“I’m really looking forward to the Great North Run. I’m dressing up as Black Country Mon, a midland superhero, and I’m hoping to make everyone smile! I know my father will be with me every step of the way.”
Amy Spencer, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “There are around 1.2 million people in the UK today living with the impact of stroke, so it’s vital that we have people like Chris who can raise funds for people affected by stroke. We really appreciate Chris’s support and we look forward to cheering him on as he takes part in the Great North Run in his Black Country Mon costume.”
