The Great Paddle challenge for stroke

Phil Elborough from Petersfield has decided to do a mammoth paddle board challenge to raise funds for the Stroke Association.Phil was inspired to do something in Action on Stroke Month to thank the local Petersfield Stroke Association for the fantastic support that they have given him and his mother since his Dad had two strokes.

With his partner Lis Bulpitt and Sarah the dog, Phil will be paddle boarding 45miles (2250 Strokes of the paddle)of the Basingstoke canal. They will be setting off from Odiham on the 23rd May 2015 and paddling along the Basingstoke Canal up to towards Weybridge where they will join the River Wey and paddle upstream to finish at Godalming.

Talking about the challenge Phil said “I have always been involved in water sports largely due to my father who loved sailing and continues to sail thanks to Sail ability another great charity. I started Stand up paddle boarding last year for pleasure and teaching others to enjoy the sport. So I thought what better way to support the Stroke Association than to set a challenge. Of course for added difficulty our trusty companion Sarah the chocolate Labrador will be with us, she doesn't always sit nicely on the board and loves to leap off chasing sticks and ducks the latter she never catches as they fly away.”

You can find out details of the Phil and Lis’ complete route and keep up to date with their progress on the Facebook event page: www.facebook.com/events/1512006645755419/1512012562421494.

On that day members of the Petersfield Stroke Group will be joining them for a day of fundraising and they will be running taster sessions for anyone who would like a go at paddle boarding for a donation of course 1100am till 4:00pm.

Phil, Lis and Sarah will finish their challenge on Saturday 30th May with the final stage from Guildford to Godalming Wharf. The finish line will be just next to Sainsbury where they will aim to arrive approximately 2:00pm.If you’re in the area please come down and cheer them on.
