Press release -

The Stroke Association in Chester is out to conquer stroke, as part of Carers Week

In a bid to conquer stroke, residents in Chesterare invited to free blood pressure testing by the Stroke Association on Friday 12 June. The team will be set up in Sainsbury’s in Boughton from 11 am-3pm, as part of Carers Week.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

High blood pressure remains the single biggest risk factor for stroke, contributing to over half (54%) of strokes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Residents inChestercan get their blood pressure checked, and receive information and advice on steps to keep it under control.

Emma Brunés, Communication Support Co-ordinator at the Stroke Association in Chester, said: “High blood pressure is often referred to as the silent killer because it doesn’t present symptoms and many people have no idea their health may be at risk. Over 9 million people in the UK are currently registered with high blood pressure but estimates suggest there could be up to almost 7 million people who are currently undiagnosed and at risk.

“Getting your blood pressure checked is easy and quick. We hope to see many people from Chesterat our event; it’s a simple way to reducing your risk of having a stroke.”

The Stroke Association in Chester and Ellesmere Port is also calling out for more volunteers to help support its communication support service. For more information contact Emma Brunés on 01244 389 266, or visitwww.stroke.org.uk.
