Well Pharmacy win Corporate Supporter of the Year Award

Well Pharmacy has been named as Corporate Supporter of the Year by the Stroke Association at the charity’s annual Life After Stroke Awards. The awards celebrate the courage shown by stroke survivors and carers as well as the great work and commitment shown by health professionals, groups and supporter organisations.

The Stroke Association’s Corporate Supporter of the Year award recognises an organisation that has gone the extra mile for the charity.John Nuttall, CEO at Well Pharmacy, was presented with the award by musician Dave Hill and broadcaster Mark Goodier at a star studded ceremony in the Dorchester hotel in London on 1 November 2017.

Well Pharmacy joined forces with the Stroke Association in February 2017 with the aim of reducing people’s risk of stroke across the UK. The national pharmacy chain is aiming to fundraise £250,000 for the Stroke Association’s Know Your Blood Pressure campaign, which provides free blood pressure checks within local communities.

With 780 pharmacies across the UK, Well offer free blood pressure checks and advice in its stores nationwide helping people take steps to reduce their risk of stroke.

John Nuttall from Well Pharmacy said: “We’re honoured to be named Corporate Supporter of the Year after a fantastic first year of working in partnership with the Stroke Association. The charity is very close to my heart, as my father and my brother have suffered from a stroke so I know first-hand the devastating impact this disease can have”.

“When this collaboration began, my goal was to raise awareness of the link between high blood pressure and stroke through our pharmacy chain, to actively reduce the risk of stroke. Since then, 4,000 Well colleagues have completed the Stroke Smart training to ensure we’re providing the best clinical advice to patients; 3,000 blood pressure checks have been completed; and we’ve raised over £100,000 across the business through local community events to support this very worthy cause.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing our partnership in the future to help save even more lives. Thank you to all the Well colleagues who have worked so hard to make this a success, and thanks to the Stroke Association for recognising us with this award!”

Dominic Brand, Director of External Affairs at the Stroke Association said: “High blood pressure is the single biggest controllable risk factor for stroke, but as it often has no symptoms, many people do not know that they are at risk. More than 5.5 million people in the UK are unaware that they have high blood pressure. Thanks to this great partnership with Well Pharmacy, we have been able to reach many more people with vital blood pressure checks and stroke prevention advice, which can be a lifesaver.”
