#runneroftheweek - Wendy Anderson

Our second brave competitor taking on the challenging Great North Run is Wendy Anderson from North Shields.

Over 10 years ago, Wendy stayed at Crawford House when her son Alex was in PICU at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, for the next three-and-a-half years she was back and forth between home and the hospital. Despite that many years have passed since her stay, Wendy is now tackling the Great North Run in the hope of raising much needed funds for us, and she’s already raised a very impressive £130.

When she’s not lacing up her running shoes, Wendy, a nurse at the Critical Care Unit at the Freeman Hospital, also loves to whip up delicious baked goods in the kitchen to help boost her fundraising!

This will be Wendy’s first ever Great North Run but she’s really been dedicating herself to making sure it’s a good one. Wendy started running over a year ago and now runs three times a week - she can often be spotted at the Whitley Bay 5k park-run on Saturday mornings kicking off her weekend with a practice run. Wendy is no stranger to running races, she’s completed several 10k events but the Great North Run is a whole new challenge.

Top Running Tip: “It takes time to see improvements - it’s taken me a year to improve - so don’t stress if you aren't a professional after two weeks of training!”
