From giveaways to giving back at Nor-Shipping

Everyone loves a freebie and tradeshow giveaways are no exception. Next week at the Nor-Shipping event in Oslo, we’ve decided to do something different and we’re replacing giveaways with giving something back.

Guests at the V.Group stand - C04-12 in Hall C - will be asked to choose one of three charities to receive a donation from V.Group at the end of the show. The three chosen charities are Mercy Ships, Sailor’s Society and Sjømannskirken – Norwegian Church Abroad.

Yvonne Harley, head of communications explains more: “Guests on the stand will be given a voting ball, which they will simply place into one of three tubes on the stand. Each ball placed into the tube will be converted into cash for the charity with the final totals revealed at the end of the show.”

We’ll be sharing more about the work of these charities over the course of the next week through our social media channels, helping our guests to understand how their nomination will support the charities to carry out their vital work.

Mercy Ships is a specialist team of medics and crew from all over the world, who donate their time to help on board the world’s largest non-governmental floating hospital. The charity has helped transform the lives of more than two million people in some of the poorest countries of the world since 1978. The Africa Mercy, which is 152m in length has five operating theatres, 82 beds and can accommodate up to 474 crew members. Sailor’s Society is an international Christian charity, which was founded in 1818 and has a multi-denominational outlook – reaching out to seafarers where they work providing practical services such as phone cards to connect with their loved ones, newsprint in many languages and access to Wi-Fi hotspots. The Sailor’s Society is at the heart of innovation when it comes to providing support and improving communication between chaplains, seafarers, seafarer’s families and their offices with the development of three apps – Ship Visitor ICMA for chaplains, Wellness at Sea for seafarers and SeaWives App, which provides a free online forum for wives, partners and families of seafarers.For further information please visit their website: www.sailors-society.org

Sjømannskirken – Norwegian Church Abroad is a not for profit organisation, which supports Norwegians abroad with churches and seven chaplains who visit around 80 countries a year – including Norwegian oil installations in the North Sea. The organisation receives a third of its funding from the government and two-thirds from private sponsors and companies who have benefitted from their pastoral care. Their main office is in Bergen, Norway and in addition to the regular visits and hospitals; the team has over 200 agreements in place with companies and universities providing emergency response and crisis handling.
