Pub company partners with Prostate Cancer UK for summer campaign

Spirit Pub Company has announced it is to support Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United campaign this summer.

Spirit, which has raised over £145,000 in the last four years through fundraising initiatives for the charity, has committed to support its latest campaign Men United v Prostate Cancer during the key summer months when pubs are expected to be packed with guests watching the all-important summer football games.

The partnership, which kicks off today until 31st July, aims to raise over £30,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and will see more than 750 pubs take part across Spirit’s Flaming Grill, John Barras, Taylor Walker, Fayre & Square and Chef & Brewer brands.

Mike Tye, Spirit Pub Company CEO, said: “The pub is the perfect place to meet with friends to enjoy the “beautiful game” this summer. This gives us an ideal opportunity to help Prostate Cancer UK improve awareness among our guests and drive those all essential donations that help towards fighting the disease.

“We’re proud to continue our relationship with Prostate Cancer UK, and I’m sure, with the fantastic fundraising ideas our teams are preparing, that we’ll exceed our fundraising target!”

Prostate Cancer UK supports men with the disease, provides vital information and finds answers by funding research into causes and treatments. Their latest campaign, Men United, is a call for men to join together in a movement against the common enemy of prostate cancer.

Men United is a movement for all men – and women – borrowing the passion, support and language of sport to get men engaged in their own health and Prostate Cancer UK’s Director of Fundraising Mark Bishop, said: “This is an exciting partnership with Spirit Pub Company during one of the largest international sporting events. We know as a charity that reaching men with an important health message in traditional places such as doctors’ surgeries is not always the most successful approach. It’s about going to where men and their families go, and that very much includes pubs. This is how we can raise awareness of prostate cancer, get men to take information on board, and ultimately fight to save lives. We thank Spirit Group for its on going support and continuous dedication in fighting the disease.”

People are being asked to sign for Men United by visiting www.prostatecanceruk.org/menunited where they can also test their health knowledge by taking a quick quiz.

Spirit Pub Company owns and operates over 800 managed pubs across the UK under brands such as Flaming Grill, Chef & Brewer, Fayre & Square and Taylor Walker.
