Press release -

A Rochdale park is getting a Batman themed makeover.

Rochdale Borough Council has teamed up with Balderstone Park Friends Group to re-furbish a play area at Balderstone Park for the area’s 4 to 11 year olds.

Due to open in November, the playground which is the first to be installed in the north west of England, will be decorated with a variety of batman and batgirl graphics and will include:

  • a special springy safety surface
  • two slides
  • a climbing board
  • batmobile and joker cars on springs
  • seating areas
  • climbing ropes

Pat Colclough, Chair of the Friends of Balderstone Park said: “We are delighted to have won funding for the project which will provide a much needed new play area after the previous one became so rundown. I’m sure children in the area will love the new facilities when they open next month.”

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Rochdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Place and Regulation, added: “We are delighted to be supporting a scheme which will not only see new facilities for children in the area but the park will also be getting a brand new adult outdoor gym featuring six items of outdoor gym equipment.”

Led by the Rochdale Township and the friends group, the £55k scheme is being funded by grants from the Balderstone/Kirkholt Forum, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, Clinical Commissioning Group and Rochdale Borough Council. The work is being carried out by Beechwood Landscape using equipment supplied by Park Leisure, who have been given approval for the Batman design by Warner Brothers.
