Poetry competition invites rhythm and rhymes of Rochdale

The borough’s budding Byrons, Betjemans and Carol Ann Duffys are invited to put pen to paper, keyboard to computer or text to tablet and compose a poem about the local area.

Poets from across the borough are invited to write a poem inspired by one of 18 photographs submitted for a competition to capture the best of the borough as part of Rochdale Ideas & Literature Festival.

The winning poem will receive a £50 cash prize donated by Rochdale Co-operative Members’ Group, which will be presented by Eileen Earnshaw, Secretary of Cooperative Member’s Group, Rochdale.

The poem will also be featured with 17 other selected poems in an exhibition at Gallery One, Touchstones, Rochdale, later this year.

Entrants, aged 16 years and over, need to enter their poems online by Friday 8 November. The photographs can be viewed and poems submitted at www.rochdaleliteraturefestival.co.uk/competitions
