Press release -

Remember to give your views on Council Tax Support Scheme

Rochdale Borough Council is reminding residents they have just a few more weeks to give their views on its Local Council Tax Support Scheme before the council considers making any changes.  Responses to the consultation must be received by Friday 24 October.

The authority introduced the local discount scheme last year, following changes to Council Tax Benefit.  The scheme provides a discount on council tax bills for householders on low incomes who meet the entitlement criteria. Now the council is asking for the views of local people on its proposed Local Council Tax Support Scheme for 2015-16, through a consultation exercise launched this month.

All working age households currently receiving support have been sent a postal survey to gauge their views on the scheme and hundreds have already responded, but the council would still like to hear from other residents.

Currently the scheme pays a maximum discount of 75 per cent of the council tax charge for a band A property, even if those claiming live in a property with a higher band.

Pauline Kane, Director of Finance at Rochdale Borough Council said:

“It’s important that people let us know their views on our proposals so that we can make an informed decision on our Local Council Tax Support Scheme for 2015-16. There is still time to give your feedback, but we need responses by 24 October.”

Alternatively, visit your local library or customer service centre where you can complete a printed copy of the survey or use one of the free computers. If you have received a questionnaire remember to return it using the freepost address provided.  Responses must be received by 5pm on Friday 24 October 2014.
