Birdlife in the west of Cornwall

Visitors to Rosehill Lodges in Western Cornwall can count on seeing a stunning variety of our flighty, feathered friends also visiting this very desirable holiday destination from all over the world. From the more common starlings, crows, sparrows, pigeons and robins, to the more rare Olive-backed Pipit and Yellow-browed Warbler, West Cornwall has a massive bird population that thrives in the largely unspoiled environment found here.

Just recently a red-headed Green Woodpecker was spotted in Porthtowan valley and other very eye-catching specimens of the songbird variety such as the Mistle Thrush, Hawfinch, Waxwing, Song Thrushes and Firecrests have also been  spotted this winter at Rosehill Lodges. Regular Buzzard and Sparrowhawk sightings throughout the year ensure a magnificent spectacle. Many owls also live at Rosehill lodges and there are regular sights and sounds of Tawny Owls and Barn Owls in the vicinity. For those with an interest in sea birds there are often numerous sightings of a variety of Gulls, terns, guillemots and waders like Curlews and Sandpipers.

Each Spring Rosehill's bird cameras stream live footage of their feathered residents' efforts to breed and rear their young on the website. If you're a committed bird lover, a real treat whilst on holiday at Rosehill lodges, would be to set your alarm for 4am and get up to experience the dawn chorus around your lodge. The delights of birdwatching from the tranquil setting of the glass-covered decking at Rosehill with your freshly brewed coffee, must be experienced to be fully appreciated.

For recent sightings, bird lovers can refer to the very informative website Cornwall Birding and can see what other enthusiasts have spotted and recorded there.
