ACR Electronics Inc: Highlight Complete AIS Solution for Boaters Preparing for New Season

For the first time at the Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show, ACR Electronics and Ocean Signal, both Drew Marine companies, are introducing a comprehensive AIS technology offering for boaters preparing to equip themselves and their boats with the most innovative safety products this season.

The complete AIS solution now available includes the award-winning Ocean Signal rescueME MOB1 with AIS and DSC, the new Ocean Signal AIS Alarm Box and the ACR Electronics Class A AISLink CA1 and Class B AISLink CB1 AIS transceivers

The two leading safety and survival companies are combining to offer the expanded AIS package following ACR’s acquisition of UK-based safety and communication specialist Ocean Signal last year.

Gerry Angeli, President of ACR Electronics, said: “We are very pleased to offer our customers some of the latest and most innovative AIS products available on the market. Boaters can now come to us for AIS devices for themselves to ensure the best chance of rescue should they or their crew fall overboard and also for their boat to further enhance navigational safety and, in some cases, to ensure compliance with the latest AIS mandates. AIS technology has become a vital component for all boaters which cannot be ignored when they are selecting safety equipment.”

Among the new products now offered by Ocean Signal, the rescueME MOB1is the world’s most advanced Man Overboard locating device, incorporating both AIS and DSC technologies within the most compact product on the market. It is 30% smaller than similar products and designed to easily integrate into life jackets, ensuring the best chance of rapid rescue for an MOB in extreme conditions by using two methods of communicating back to the vessel.

Compatible with the rescueME MOB1, the new AIS Alarm Box provides visual and audible indication the moment any AIS-MOB or AIS-SART signal is received to ensure that everyone on the vessel is alerted to a possible Man Overboard (MOB) or a crew in need of rescue. As soon as an AIS transmission is detected, a tone-specific internal alarm is sounded to identify the source – AIS-SART, AIS-MOB, Active or Test Message.

Suitable for installation on commercial vessels affected by the recent US Coast Guard mandate on AIS requirements effective from March 2016 and ideal for a range of other workboats and recreational boats, the premium, fully-featured ACR AISLink CA1 Class A and CB1 Class B transceivers are certified around the world to the latest AIS regulations.

A GPS-enabled, commercial standard system which demonstrates the highest AIS transmission power and the most frequent transmission of AIS information, the AISLink CA1 offers commercial operators and owners a premium system with an extensive feature set. The leading Class A option is compact, easy to use and install, and offers outstanding reliability and versatility at a competitive price. Developed to clearly display and track critical safety and navigational information, the unit will send and receive wireless data to and from nearby AIS-equipped vessels including the vessel’s name, position, course or speed over the ground, heading and rate of turn.

Competitively priced and with a rugged and waterproof design, the ACRAISLink CB1 is ideal for recreational boats and a viable option for certain commercial vessels, such as fishing and small passenger vessels. Small, rugged and waterproof with low power consumption, the Class B device is reliable and easy to use with an internal GPS antenna to save space.

The new USCG AIS mandate affects US and foreign-flag vessels operating in US waters and has been introduced to enhance the safety and security of maritime transportation. Failure to comply could result in a civil penalty. The rule means vessels such as commercial self-propelled vessels of 65 feet or more in length, towing vessels of 26 feet or more, passenger vessels certified to carry more than 150 passengers, vessels that move or carry hazardous cargo and vessels that engage in dredging in or near a commercial channel will all require a Class A AIS device. Meanwhile, certain vessels, including fishing and small passenger vessels that operate outside US Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) areas, can use the less expensive Class B device.

ACR has launched a new website, www.aismandate.com, to inform, advise, update and interact with mariners about AIS and the new USCG mandate.
