Newly launched challenge event 'Judgement Day' is a huge success

The inaugural Judgement Day obstacle course event on April 26 and 27 has raised more than £8,000 to help aspiring British athletes like Loren Bleaken and Alex Chantler-Mayne who were both there to support the competitors.

Battling the elements as well as a tough course on Salisbury Plain, a thousand participants covered 10 miles in the British Special Forces’ urban warfare training area. Details were kept closely under wraps prior to the event, which was subsequently dubbed ‘the secret OCR event’, but it more than matched the hype, as obstacle course race experts Mudstacle explain.

“This was the first race in a loooong time that I actually dreaded,” wrote Pete on Mudstacle.

“I’ve run obstacle races most weekends for the last couple of years, many of which are branded as gruelling or “the toughest”, but I found that Judgement Day really lived up to it…Overcoming challenges, for me, is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do."

As the event’s charity partner, SportsAid received £1 from each participant’s registration fee plus another £7,000 that was raised by a 40-strong team from Hogarth, another partner of the charity.

On the first day of the event SportsAid athletes Loren Bleaken and Alex Chantler-Mayne were each presented with a cheque for £1,000, with more SportsAid awards to be announced soon once the remaining money is distributed to other athletes.

Graham Dandy from SportsAid said, “Thank you to everyone at Judgement Day and all the runners, who pushed their bodies to the limits to help raise money for SportsAid. We raised £8,000 which will help several talented young British sportspeople fulfil their potential. It was a fun, energetic and inspirational event and we hope SportsAid can be involved in many more to come, and keep supporting the champions of the future.”

The next Judgement Day takes place on 15 November 2014. If you need some convincing to sign up, then maybe this video of the day will help?!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9ckWA4GQSQ&feature=youtu.be
