More than 200 Warrington runners help to conquer stroke

A sea of over 200 purple fundraisers came together to help conquer stroke, at the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run in Warrington on Saturday 05 October.

Participants ran, jogged or walked a 5k, 10k or 15k course at the event in Victoria Park, all to raise money for the charity.

The stroke team from the Stroke Unit at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust also took part. Stroke consultant, Dr Michelle Kidd and a team of three physiotherapists, Jill Wright, Michael Walsh and Catherine Zwart, all donned their running shoes to raise vital funds.

Runners were cheered on by Warrington stroke survivor Dave McCartney, who recently appeared on DIY SOS when their family home was transformed into the house of their dreams.

The fun event provides the perfect motivation to get in shape while supporting a vital cause. At least half of strokes could be prevented if people made simple lifestyle changes, such as exercising more and keeping blood pressure under control.

Annie Moran,Events Officer at the Stroke Association, said: “There are around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s one every three and a half minutes. We’re a charity that relies on people to raise funds so we can be there for families affected by stroke. The Warrington Resolution Run saw stroke survivors, volunteers, carers and supporters all come together to help conquer stroke. Money raised will fund vital research and support, as well as helping to prevent people in the North West from having a stroke.”
