Appointment confirmed for new Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey Police

The Chief Constable of Surrey Police has announced that Jeremy Burton is the new Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey Police.

Jeremy has been acting as the Temporary Deputy Chief Constable since January having stepped up from his role as Assistant Chief Constable following the departure of former Chief Constable Nick Ephgrave to the Metropolitan Police.

Chief Constable Gavin Stephens says of Jeremy: “I have worked closely with Jeremy for the last three years or so and know him to be an individual who is proud to serve both his force and the public. I am really delighted to have been able to appoint him into this position. He and I, along with the great team of staff and officers that we have here at Surrey will do our utmost to provide an outstanding policing service across the county”

Deputy Chief Constable Jeremy Burton said: “I consider myself so fortunate to have had the opportunities in my career that have enabled me to get to this point. I am so proud to be able to serve the communities of Surrey alongside our fantastic officers and staff in the rank of Deputy Chief Constable.

I am looking forward to what this next chapter of my career has to offer –policing still has many challenges ahead but with these will come some incredibly rewarding times too.”

Jeremy’s career in policing began with the Metropolitan Police in 1988 and in 2016 he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable, Specialist Crime Command for Surrey and Sussex. Since that time Jeremy has worked in a number of areas including command responsibilities across both Forces for Major Crime Team, Serious Organised Crime, Forensics and Intelligence and Public Protection in Surrey; he is currently the National Police Chief Council Lead for Disclosure and Organised Immigration Crime.
