Vasalopet – the world’s largest ski race

By May, 2011 entries for participation in the 2012 Vasalopet (Vasa Race) had closed. Nearly 60,000 skiers, ranging in nationalities, will be taking part in a week long celebration of cross country skiing on Sunday, 4 March. The race is 90 km long, starting off in Sälen and concluding in Mora. Some 15 000 skiers will follow in the tracks of Gustav Vasa, who in 1520 tried to rally the people of the County of Dalarna against the then King of Sweden, Christian II of Denmark.
