First ever Swedish Pre-Election Debate to take place in London in April 2010

London, Thursday 28 January 2010

The event will be aimed at the large Swedish community in London and the United Kingdom. "London and the United Kingdom is probably Sweden's largest foreign community, and I would not be surprised if London is one of Sweden's larger cities, which makes a pre-election debate both necessary and interesting", says Annika Wahlberg, Managing Director, Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK.

All seven political parties currently represented in the Swedish Parliament have been invited to take part in the event and all but one have so far confirmed participation. So far, Urban Ahlin, MP and Vice Chairman, The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Social Democrats, Per Schlingmann, Party Secretary, Moderaterna and Johan Pehrson, MP, The Parliamentary Committee on Justice, Folkpartiet Liberalerna have confirmed participation in the debate.

“We are very happy about the positive response that we have received from the political parties and it will be great to put foreign Swedes’ issues on the political agenda”, says Peter Sandberg, Communications Manager, Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK.

The pre-election debate is scheduled for 14 April, further information will be announced. For enquiries, please contact Peter Sandberg, Communications Manager on +44 20 7224 8001 or by e-mail to sandberg@scc.org.uk.
