Global's Make Some Noise gives £5,000 grant to help Scott House families
The Sick Children's Trust was delighted to receive a grant for £5,000 following Global's Make Some Noise campaign in 2014.
The charity is one of 100 children’s and young people’s charities from all across the UK benefitting from Global’s Make Some Noise. The campaign raised money to fund projects that support young people who may have been affected by illness, disability, bereavement or lack of opportunity.
The £5,000 grant will go towards the charity's newest 'Home from Home - Scott House supporting Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The house supports families with children receiving lifesaving treatment on the hospital's children's heart unit, and provides a safe space for their siblings to enable family life to continue. The money will fund items such as bed linen, electrical equipment, laundry and cleaning materials which help ensure families have a comfortable stay.

Jane Featherstone, Deputy Chief Executive at The Sick Children’s Trust, says: “We support 3,500 families every year by providing free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support. These are families whose lives are thrown into turmoil when their seriously ill child is rushed to hospital. At Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, our newly-opened Scott House provides a lifeline for around 400 families a year who have children receiving lifesaving treatment on the Children’s Heart Unit. But we rely entirely on voluntary donations to keep the house open 24/7, 365 days a year. Global’s Make Some Noise grant will go directly towards supporting families in the most difficult of circumstances, ensuring Scott House can continue to provide much-needed respite just minutes from the hospital’s critical care wards. The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists Dr Jon Pritchard and Professor James Malpas. They believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.
Today we have ten ‘Homes from Home’ at major hospitals around the country where families can stay free of charge, for as long as they need whilst their child is undergoing treatment.
Every year we help around 3,500 families, but there is a growing demand for our ‘Homes from Home’ as children must increasingly travel long distances to get the specialist treatment they need.
We are working to a future where every family with a seriously ill child in hospital will be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment.
