Taylor Wimpey supports families with seriously ill children in hospital in Yorkshire
Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire is delighted to announce that it has raised £3,000 at its annual May ball for The Sick Children’s Trust.
The organisation, which is the homebuilder’s 2017 charity of the year, will put the money towards its ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, allowing families with seriously ill children in hospital stay just minutes from their sick child’s bedside.
Laura Leverton, regional fundraiser for The Sick Children’s Trust, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated as Taylor Wimpey’s charity of the year and with this fantastic amount of money raised we will be able to make a significant difference to families with seriously ill children in hospital.
“As a charity, we completely rely on voluntary donations to keep our ten ‘Homes from Home’ running. In Yorkshire, we have three ‘Homes from Home’ supporting families with sick children undergoing treatment at Leeds General Infirmary and Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
“With huge thanks to Taylor Wimpey and all the generous guests at the ball, we can be there for the increasing number of families from Yorkshire and beyond who rely on us to keep them together with their sick child.”
The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists who believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child’s recovery. The charity currently runs 10 ‘Homes from Home’ across the UK, supporting up to 146 families every night, 365 days a year. It costs the charity £30 to support a family for one night.

The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists Dr Jon Pritchard and Professor James Malpas. They believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.
Today we have ten ‘Homes from Home’ at major hospitals around the country where families can stay free of charge, for as long as they need whilst their child is undergoing treatment.
Every year we help around 3,500 families, but there is a growing demand for our ‘Homes from Home’ as children must increasingly travel long distances to get the specialist treatment they need.
We are working to a future where every family with a seriously ill child in hospital will be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment.
