Two US Fuel Stories

Here are two stories from the USA about how businesses across the pond are being affected by rising fuel prices.

1. Airline hikes ticket prices

Southwest Airlines Co. has just announced that it's raising ticket prices to offset the high cost of jet fuel, according to the Detroit News. Several other big airlines are set to follow the airline’s lead.

It's Southwest's third ticket price increase this year, and a spokesman said it's due to higher fuel costs. Southwest and its AirTran Airways subsidiary have raised fares between $4 and $10 per round trip, depending on the distance travelled.

2. Florida company accuses employee of stealing 54,000 gallons of diesel fuel

Investigators at Florida Rock and Tank Lines have accused an employee of stealing 54,000 gallons of diesel fuel, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

The 26-year employee was allegedly removing the fuel to a storage unit and reselling the fuel at bargain prices. According to the arrest report, he had been getting away with it since October 2009!
