Unisport fits out Newcastle University's brand new Sports Centre

Designed by Ryder Architecture and built by Clugston Construction, the four storey centre provides "an integrated leisure and learning facility for the university."

Unisport worked closely with the client, contractor and design team to provide integrated design solutions for this state-of-the-art facility.  This included visits to existing sports facilities to show the client products in situ and demonstrate how they can be of benefit to both the users and operators of the facility.  Meanwhile, our dedicated technical team worked with the Architect and Main Contractor to provide bespoke drawings and ensure that the sports equipment was fully integrated with all other elements of the building.

The hall itself is an 8-court hall that can be quickly and easily sub-divided into two 4-court halls thanks to an electrically operated T500 Motorised Divider.  The divider is operated by a key switch, meaning no manual handling is required and the space is transformed in less than a minute.  The divider features a strong PVC screen that will help ensure it will stand up to the rigours of Sports Hall use for many years to come.

When the divider is raised, a show basketball court provides the stage for competitive matches, with electrically operated Roof Mounted Basketball Goals folding down from the ceiling.  Two further full-sized basketball courts are also served by the same type of goal when the hall is sub-divided, giving the University maximum flexibility for the space.

The hall also features two handball / futsal courts.  When not in use, the goals for these courts are hoisted into the roof space using Unisport's electrically operated Goal Hoist.  This again significantly reduces the amount of manual handling for the staff of the Sports Centre, speeding up the changeover between lets, whilst also ensuring that the goals are stored away safe from harm - and, no to mention, also freeing up space in the stores!).

Socketed Badminton and Volleyball posts provide top-class equipment for the Sports Centre and its users to enjoy, whilst a range of post and equipment storage trolleys help keep the stores neat and reduce the manual handling of equipment.
