V.Ships Brazil celebrates partnerships in the maritime community

Members of the local shipping community in Rio de Janeiro gathered last night at the annual V.Ships event at the Copacabana Palace Hotel to celebrate and recognise the importance of partnerships in the industry.

V.Ships Brazil general manager, Leo Freitas welcomed guests and introduced V.Ships Offshore director Alessandro Ciocchi and V.Group’s executive director Bob Bishop to share a little on future investment plans for the Brazil ship management operations.

With former naval officer, now V.Ships Brazil technical superintendent Carlos Rodrigues as master of ceremonies for the evening, it was time to recognise local people on their safety and compliance and social responsibility achievements.

The V.Ships Social Responsibility Award was given to Admiral Gilberto Cezar Lourenco of the Merchant Navy School (pictured top image - third from the right) for his ongoing work in promoting the industry and encouraging partnerships to enhance the students learning experience.

The V.Ships Safety Award was given to the master, chief engineer and crew on board DP shuttle tanker SAO SEBASTIAO, in recognition of their commitment to safety and environmental protection. Carlos Camargo (pictured top image - second from the left), marine safety and quality superintendent accepted the award on behalf of the crew who are at sea and were unable to attend.

Following on from the theme of recognition and investing in the local community, the highlight of the evening was the announcement of two new V.Ships Brazil initiatives - a partnership with the local Maritime Academy in Rio to provide cadets with industry experience. And the launch of a school’s education programme for children age 6-13 – engaging them in the maritime industry and the potential career opportunities that exist.

After all the excitement guests then enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new acquaintances.
