Birmingham New Street : Closure of Queens Drive : 1 August 2011

Press release   •   Jul 28, 2011 23:00 BST

As part of the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station, Network Rail has started to demolish Stephenson Tower as the first step towards constructing a brand new department store for John Lewis.

Subject to planning approval, the new shop will open on the south side site in 2014.
To allow the continued safe demolition of the tower, Queens Drive will close to pedestrians on 1 August 2011.

Alternative pedestrian routes via Smallbrook Queensway and Dudley Street will be signposted. We apologise for any inconvenience during these important works.
