Comedy Rocks Alderney Once Again

On the Island of Alderney The Georgian House are delighted to host COMEDY ROCKS for a second year! 2016 gave the tiny Channel Island of Alderney the first ever comedy event of this kind and 2017 will be even bigger and better! Get ready for a side-splitting 3-week festival featuring 6 of the UK’s best stand-up comedians live on Alderney!

Comedy Rocks 2017 kicks off on the 18th & 19th July with Marcus Brigstocke. If you didn’t see him at last year’s sell out gigs, you’ll not want to miss this!

Marcus is a regular on TV and radio shows such as The Now Show, Live at the Apollo, Have I got News for You and I’ve Never Seen Star Wars and was in both Love Actually & Red Nose Day Actually. His stand-up comedy weaves hard-hitting topical issues of the day with razor-sharp adlib, crowd interaction and a disarming amount of whimsy. He will be joined by the brilliant Zoe Lyons – a regular with BBC’s Mock The Week, The Comedy Store and the Edinburgh Fringe – featuring material from her brand new stand-up show “Little Misfit”.

On the 25th & 26th July we welcome Nick Doody who is sharing the bill with Chris Martin (not the bloke from Coldplay!).

Nick has been performing comedy since the 90s when he got off to a great start by supporting the legendary Bill Hicks and he was the first British comedian to ever perform in Croatia! He has penned jokes for Joan Rivers, Lenny Henry & Dame Edna Everage as well as a number of Mock The Week regulars. Chris embarked on his own sell-out tour in 2013 after supporting Russel Kane and Jack Whitehall. It’s easy to see why the Guardian said he is “one of the best observationalists” in Britain and The Times tipped him for “greatness”.

The hilarious Tom Wrigglesworth & Canadian funnyman Bobby Mair close the festival on the 1st & 2nd August.

Time Out magazine described Tom as a “magical storyteller…a rare talent…hysterical & accomplished”, whilst Bobby is best known for his work on Russell Howard’s Good News & 8 Out of 10 Cats. Bobby’s other claim to fame is his 3rd cousin – Canadian pop-star Justin Bieber – although he claims that they have never met. This fact has been mentioned many times, including in his Edinburgh Fringe show “Obviously Adopted”.

Don’t delay - tickets are selling fast! Email judy@georgianalderney.com or pop to The Georgian House between 9-5 Monday-Friday to book! And if you can, take advantage of the Rover Ticket: three events for £50.

AlderneyFactfile

Alderney is the third largest Channel Island and part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It lies just seven miles off the coast of Normandy.

Just eight square kilometres in size, it is home to around 2,000 residents and the iconic blond hedgehog.

Around two per cent of the world’s gannet population choose Alderney as their breeding spot of choice every year, on two rocks just off the coast. The Island is also a hit with puffins and seals, who summer on nearby Burhou.

Alderney’s heritage is arguably the richest in the Channel Islands, and is layered with Roman, Napoleonic and German fortifications. It boasts the UK’s best preserved Roman fortlet – the only standing Roman building in the Channel Islands.

It also boasts the Channel Islands only train. The tracks were originally laid to transport granite from a quarry to the magnificent Victorian Breakwater – now a charming Underground Tube train trundles along the tracks, transporting visitors from Braye to the Island’s iconic striped Lighthouse, also open to visitors.
