BIO-X program calls for project proposals focused on ICT-healthcare solutions to improve personalised treatment and care

The nationwide call for BIO-X® project proposals opened on May 19th. Funding and support for BIO-X projects enables successful applicants to verify that their idea is technically and commercially viable.

Proposals should be for a novel, ICT-based solution that can give direct benefit to the individual receiving treatment or care. For example:

  • by increasing cure rates or survival times, reducing risk of side-effects, or minimizing discomfort
  • by empowering individuals to participate in management of their own health through self generated data
  • by supporting medical providers or caregivers in making correct decisions for treatment, care, and/or medication tailored to the individual.

Today, healthcare, in hospital and at home, relies increasingly on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to ensure that the individual derives maximum benefit from every treatment and to minimize the risk of harmful or adverse events.

The personal, social and economic benefits resulting from more effective treatment and care of the individual are clear, but better solutions are needed to ensure that the right decisions are made at the right time. To facilitate personalised treatment and care, efficient data collection, easy access to relevant information and timely communication between healthcare professionals, carers and individuals are essential.

Proposals are welcomed from applicants affiliated with a Swedish university or college, a research or healthcare organisation or an SME.

More information is available at www.bio-x.nu. Call closes August 26th 2014, 17.00 CET.

About BIO-X

The nationwide BIO-X® program utilises an industrial approach to support life-science related projects that will fulfil market and/or society needs, create investment opportunities, and contribute to the long-term growth of the Swedish market.

BIO-X projects enable researchers, healthcare workers or enterprises to take the first critical step towards potential commercialization.

A stringent selection process involves independent experts in the field. BIO-X coaches assist in strengthening project plans and finding partners. Successful projects receive funding, continued support and access to experts within the BIO-X network.

Projects within the program (originally developed by Uppsala BIO) are partially funded by VINNOVA.
