Press release -

Uppsala BIO investor meeting contributed US$ 11.5 million financing for Cavidi

In November 2017, Uppsala BIO arranged a meeting to bring together life science companies seeking mid-sized investments and investors looking to make such placements. We are happy to announce a very positive outcome for two of the participants: Impilo is now investing US$ 11.5 million in Cavidi.

Attracting financing to companies that have grown beyond their start-up phase but still not reached positive cash-flow is a challenge” says Andrew Oldfield, Deputy Managing Director at Cavidi.

In 2017, Uppsala BIO met with CEOs of mid-sized companies to identify major obstacles for growth. Several found it difficult to take the second step, i.e. use the market potential created by their first product. Funding in the 30-300 MSEK range was particularly difficult to find. Uppsala BIO therefore met with several investors who would be suitable for these companies. The result was a very focused meeting with four investors and seven life science businesses.

We were very pleased with the contribution that Uppsala Bio made in creating interest and reinforcing connections with potential investors. Life science companies need support in the early stages of their development due to the high levels of investment needed. But as life science will be a growth industry this century and a major source of employment, this sort of support will pay dividends.” says Andrew.

This is so rewarding - our role is really to facilitate growth in our life science companies. Uppsala has a fantastic asset in this sector, and we are happy that investors also see the potential.” says Margaretha Gadnell, Director Life Science Cluster Development at Uppsala BIO.
