GAHCC Partners with Wells Fargo for $10,000 Donation

Austin, Texas (February 28, 2012) – Hispanic Austin Leadership graduate and community development officer for Wells Fargo, Theresa Alvarez, has rallied Wells Fargo to match $10,000 in funds donated by fellow program alumni to the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Foundation Capital Campaign. For every $500 a graduate donates, Wells Fargo will match the amount. “I’m proud that this $10,000 matching grant from Wells Fargo represents the first corporate gift to the campaign and I encourage other corporations to join us in this effort,” Alvarez said. Due to Ms. Alvarez’s involvement, Wells Fargo has an established connection with the Hispanic Austin Leadership Alumni (HALA), as many members of the Texas banking giant are Alumni themselves.

Past graduating classes, as far back as 1999, are encouraged to make a donation. Contributions benefit The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which is raising funds to acquire its own building. All alumni donors will be installed as members of El Milenio, a group recognized as assisting with the purchase of the building. Though becoming a member of El Milenio is usually a $1000 investment, admittance will be ensured with a $500 gift to the Foundation’s building.

“It was an honor when President/CEO Andy Martinez invited me to serve on the Capital Campaign Committee,” Alvarez said. “I think it is a tremendous opportunity to engage HALA, which has eagerly responded to the challenge.”

In addition to a Hispanic Austin Leadership initiative, the Foundation provides funding for Health & Wellness and Education. The Foundation also works to reinforce the importance of community programs such as STEM mentoring at Dobie and Martin Middle schools, Bilingual Toastmasters and Health & Hot Sauce/Salud y Salsa, a learning lunch series.  Other non profits, such as Con Mi Madre, the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium and the American Heart Association, also receive the support of the Foundation.
