IntraFish Media, the leading provider of news to the global seafood industry, today announced that it has agreed terms to acquire the Heighway Group of seafood trade publications and directories. Subject to certain conditions being satisfied, it is expected that the acquisition will be completed in approximately three weeks. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition will make IntraFish Media the world’s largest media company focused exclusively on the global seafood industry.
Heighway’s publications include leading titles Seafood International, Seafood Processor, Fish Farming International, Fishing News International and Fishing News. The transaction will also include Heighway’s Seafood International Directory, the Fishing Vessels of Britain & Ireland Directory and several related events.
“This is, of course, great news for our company, but it is even greater news for our customers. This acquisition will allow IntraFish to provide our readers and advertisers with unprecedented coverage, across geographies and across the value chain” said Pål Korneliussen, publisher of IntraFish Media.
With the addition of Heighway’s well-respected staff and group of business-to-business seafood publications, IntraFish wil provide comprehensive coverage of the seafood value chain – from the harvest and farming of seafood through to up-to-date perspectives on consumer trends across all the important seafood market in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
“The creation of a vertically integrated media company with broad geographic coverage mirrors what is happening in the global seafood industry,” Korneliussen said. “We’re not just growing for growth’s sake; we are growing because it is necessary to follow our customers and advertisers as they expand globally and consolidate vertically”
Combined, IntraFish Media and Heighway will have more than 90 employees and operate offices in UK, Norway, the United States, Chile, and Singapore.
Heighway’s strength in the print media combined with IntraFish Media’s strong Web presence also provides an unmatched media mix.
“We are combining the best of traditional print and modern online media to provide our customers with the most accurate, timely and relevant seafood news available,” Korneliussen says.
