Press release -

Record Number of Unique Visitors for 2010 Nobel Prize Announcements

The live webcasts of the 2010 Nobel Prize announcements captured worldwide attention and culminated in a total of 162,000 simultaneous unique visitors (500% increase compared to 2009) on Nobelprize.org, the official web site of the Nobel Prize, a record in the web site’s 15 year history.  Among the Nobel Prize categories, the Nobel Peace Prize drew the most traffic with 75,000 unique visitors.

Hans Mehlin, Director of Technology at Nobelprize.org, said, “The combination of Nobelprize.org and the Nobel Prize YouTube channel increases accessibility to real-time news, which contributed to our high visitor numbers.  In December, we will also provide live webcasts on Nobelprize.org of Nobel Laureate Lectures, the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm and the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony from Oslo, and we hope there will also be an interest in these events.”

The live stream on YouTube is in partnership with Google. The live video is streamed in Adobe Flash format and encoded by Kulabyte software enabling HD quality. The Content Delivery Network is provided by Akamai. The video player is developed in-house at Nobelprize.org.
