Shazam Charts help Amazon MP3 customers discover and easily purchase up-and-coming tracks

New York and London – November 21, 2013 - Shazam®, the world’s leading media engagement company, today announced the launch of Shazam Charts on Amazon MP3 – making it quick and easy for Amazon customers to buy the most tagged songs. Currently available in the US, songs trending on the Shazam Charts can be discovered and purchased online at amazon.com/shazam and in the Amazon MP3 Store on Android, iOS, and Kindle Fire devices.

Amazon has built a great reputation on providing their customers with excellent service, from the range of their products to the strength of their recommendations,” said Kevin McGurn, Shazam’s Chief Revenue Officer. “Shazam’s partnership with Amazon has provided our users with an easy way to purchase music from a trusted retailer.  We are excited about expanding this partnership to Amazon customers, as well, so that they can see the most popular tracks Shazamed by people around the globe.

Shazam’s database has more than 45 million tracks and receives more than 15 million tags per day, driving the sale of more than 500,000 items on a daily basis.  In fact, the high tag volume provides reliable data that lets the industry see which acts and tracks are popular with consumers.  The average time between a track reaching No. 1 on Shazam New Release Chart and Top 10 Billboard is 43 days, making it the leading predictor of hits in the music industry.

"Our customers constantly look to Amazon to discover new music," said Ryan Redington, Head of Digital Music Store at Amazon. "By adding Shazam Charts to the Amazon MP3 Store, we're offering our customers another great way to discover and buy the newest music, even before it reaches the traditional best-seller charts."

When shoppers click on a song from Shazam Charts within the Amazon MP3 Store, they are given the option to purchase the individual track or the entire album—making it easy for customers to seamlessly find and purchase popular tracks and albums from Amazon MP3 while still remaining engaged with Shazam

Additionally, Amazon and Shazam currently promote the discovery of some of the industry’s newest acts like Typhoon and The White Buffalo through free downloads.

The Shazam App features the industry’s fastest unlimited tagging for iOS and Android devices, as well as unique features such as Explore interactive maps, letting people see Shazam charts from around the world.  Pulse is another recently added feature that enables people to see both leading tracks and random tracks that people are tagging around the world in real time.  Whenever someone taps on any track within Shazam, they can listen to it on Rdio or Spotify; purchase the track on Amazon or iTunes; share with their friends on Facebook, Twitter or Google+; and, watch videos on YouTube.
