Events: Lifestyle races in Stockholm
The world is talking about lifestyle sports. Triathlons, military training and marathons are all the rage right now and it shows. And Stockholm is becoming a mecca for lovers of endurance sports! The races are booked full earlier than ever before and new races are created. Here are ten events this year, from April to October:
TEC – Täby Extreme Challenge
A 50 or 100 mile run in the woods north of Stockholm.
When: April 13.
ASICS Stockholm Marathon
Already booked full, record early. About 30 000 runners take on 42.2 km through downtown Stockholm and the Royal National City Park.
When: June 1
Tjejmarathon –”Womens’ Marathon”
A 53 km cross-country race created in 2012 in response to a debate about ‘women only’ races being profiled as less challenging.
When: June 29
Stockholm Ultra Marathon
A new race run for the first time this summer. 50 or 100 km in the Royal National City Park.
When: August 4
ITU World Triathlon Stockholm
Swedish triathlete Lisa Nordén became world champion last year and won the Olympic silver in London so the interest in this sport is booming.
When: August 24-25
Tough Viking
A 12 km obstacle course inspired by Nordic Military Training. Premieres this year!
When: September 1
Från Ö till Ö - ”From island to island”
One of the worlds’ thoughest races. Swim and run from island to island in the archipelago.
When: September 2
Stockholm Half Marathon
A classic half marathon through the streets of Stockholm, starting at the Royal Palace.
When: September 14
Lidingöloppet
Sweden’s biggest cross-country race on the island of Lidingö in Stockholm.
When: September 27-29
Tjurruset – ”The Bull Run”
A cross-country race through very rough terrain. Prepare to crawl in mud!
When: October 5-6
