The plans for Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm during May, takes shape. On January 25, Stockholm will officially take over the hostship of Eurovision Song Contest 2016. But we are already revealing the location of Eurovision Village and Euroclub.
Eurovision Village, the main festival site for the general public, will be at Kungsträdgården Park in central Stockholm. Euroclub will will be built on Skeppsbron by the water next to the Royal Palace. From there, guests will be able to party with lake views over the inner city of Stockholm. Moreover, we are also announcing that the big inauguration party, where the performers walk the red carpet, will be held in Stockholm's City Hall.
”The choice of the Stockholm City Hall for the opening ceremony and the Kungsträdgården park for the Eurovision Village is great, and what really stands out is the unique location of Euroclub, on one of Stockholm's most beautiful places on the Skeppsholmen Quay. It will be magic”, says Contest Producer Christer Björkman from SVT Swedish National Television.
Stockholm wants to create the ultimate party in May.
- Our ambition is that Eurovision will be noticed throughout the city. In addition to the competitions held in the Stockholm Globe Arena, there will be several festival grounds and other events around Stockholm. We look forward to welcoming Europe to a fantastic music festival in May, says Karin Wanngård, Mayor of Stockholm. "
Vienna will officially pass the hostship to Stockholm at a ceremony in the City Hall on January 25. The so called Allocation Draw, the draw to decide which country will perform during which of the two semifinals.
The event as a whole lasts two weeks and the city is now recruiting volunteers to help take care of all guests - both locals as visitors from different corners. In connection with the Allocation Draw, we will present more news about what will happen in Stockholm during the Eurovision weeks.
