New event: National Day Horse Race

A new Swedish National Day tradition is born. On June 6, Stockholm will get its own Ascot when Scandinavia's leading jockeys face off at Nationaldagsgaloppen. For the first time in nearly one-hundred years, there will be horse racing at Gärdet in the Royal National City Park

In 1831 with the king in attendance, horse racing at present-day Gärdet began an evolution into a formidable festival for all. An appearance at the races was a must in the most social circles. With a new concept and new packaging, the popular races held at Gärdet from 1831 to 1918 will be resumed. Nationaldagsgaloppen in Stockholm is conceived as an annual event with competitions, food and drink.

“Our goal is to offer a recurring festival in the middle of Stockholm, with the races being an important bearer of events and a part of Sweden's National Day,” says Peter Gudmundson, project manager for Nationaldagsgaloppen.

The day includes four races plus two pony races, a hat parade and competition, entertainment by famous Swedish artists, food, drinks and great atmosphere. Nationaldagsgaloppen starts at 12.00 and ends at 17.00

When: Thursday June 6th between 12:00-17:00
Where: Gärdet park
