Press release -

The number of international guest nights in Stockholm continues to rise

Over 1.6 million guest nights were registered at commercial accommodation facilities in Stockholm county in July. Visitors from abroad are continuing to increase while Swedish visitors are decreasing.

Overall, visits fell by -3% compared with the same month last year. Nordic overnight stays decreased by 33%, but in the other European countries, the number of guest nights increased by 10%. Of the top 15 biggest markets, the markets that increased the most in July were China +57%, UK +20%, Germany +19% , Spain +17% and US +14%.

2,354,000 passengers traveled to or from Stockholm Arlanda Airport in July, which is the highest figure ever for that month at the country’s biggest airport and a 7 percent increase compared with July last year.

“I’m happy that Stockholm is staying strong on the international market. It’s also encouraging that Arlanda continues to see very positive development and is increasingly becoming an international hub and a major airport. That’s good for Stockholm and for continued growth,” says Karin Wanngård (S), Mayor of Stockholm.

“I’m extremely pleased that we’re continuing to gain ground in the Chinese market. It’s a huge market that could grow even more with some strategic efforts on our side,” says Thomas Andersson, CEO of Visit Stockholm. “I’m also happy that we’re maintaining the increase from international visitors, even though last year, we had a huge Nordic influx in July with over 100,000 guest nights, which generated an increase of 20%.”
