Couples therapy in Gothenburg

What about surprising your partner with a mini-break to Gothenburg this spring?

Gothenburg is a delightful mixture of big city and small town. Here you can wander hand in hand along the streets of the old town overflowing with charm, or enjoy international cultural events at galleries and theatres. You can enjoy oysters and other aphrodisiacs at restaurants praised to the skies in reviews, or what about a tasty mouthful from the stalls at the big indoor market Stora Saluhallen on Kungstorget?

You can spend lazy afternoons pottering arm in arm round the Garden Society, where you can also visit the beautiful 1878 Palm House and its exotic plants, or take a trip to the outdoor pool in Jubileumsparken in Frihamnen. This has a 20 x 8 m pool right in the Göta River, as well as a beach and a “tower” sauna that has attracted a lot of attention. This bathing facility was built to form part of the city’s upcoming 400th anniversary in 2021.

But of course you don’t have to just spend time walking. You should also spend plenty of time at your hotel. After all, you are there to give your relationship a boost! And you shouldn’t just stay at any old hotel. If you are looking for something a little beyond the ordinary, you should check out the fin de siècle hotels Dorsia and Pigalle. At Hotel Pigalle you will be surrounded by velvet rugs, plush furniture, fantastic fringes, racy photographs and paintings of skimpily-clad mademoiselles in gilt frames. At reception, guests can borrow a pair of fabulous Louboutin heels (sizes 37, 38 and 39) to teeter round in to Restaurant Atelier on the top floor or while enjoying a cocktail or a glass of excellent French wine on the covered roof terrace.

And there’s no less velvet and romantic atmosphere at the Dorsia. Sinking into the generous bathtubs that feature in several of the rooms there, enveloped in bubbles, and perhaps with some bubbly in a glass as well, is just as romantic as anyone could wish.
