South Africa’s largest running and cycling club, Team Vitality, has opened next year’s membership with an exciting offer for cyclists, to join Team Vitality cycling for 2020 and get the rest of 2019 free. Discovery Vitality members who join Team Vitality cycling or renew their Team Vitality cycling membership from the 1st of October will get their Team Vitality membership for the rest of 2019 absolutely free.

“With entries closing for the main ride of the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg on Monday, 7 October, there’s a great offer for anyone still looking to tackle the race. By joining Team Vitality, they’ll get all the benefits that come with 15 months of membership, as well as 50% cash back on the cost of their entry for the full 947 Ride Joburg,” explains Celeste Williams, head of Marketing for Discovery Vitality.

Team Vitality cycling members receive a host of benefits such as the latest premium Team Vitality kit worth over R1 000, 20% off a pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut, 50% cash back on select race entry fees and an exclusive 40% discount on running, cycling and triathlon training programmes with Coach Parry.

“Our Vitality research shows that exercise is often a trigger for other healthy activities such as eating healthier foods and performing health screenings and assessments,” says Williams. “This is why Vitality has launched its global commitment to get 100 million people 20% more active by 2025.”

"Not everyone is ready to cycle 94.7 kilometres and so by working with our partners, 947 and the City of Johannesburg we have created the 947 Vitality Short Ride to help further reduce the fitness barriers to entering and taking part. To make sure our members keep moving more, Vitality will also be offering Team Vitality cyclists up to 100% cash back for completing the Vitality Short Ride," added Williams.

The Team Principal of Dimension Data, and wellness ambassador for Discovery, Doug Ryder says, “ today whether you’re cycling or running, whatever you are doing is a lot more fun and it goes a lot quicker when you are in a group with like-minded individuals that have also set goals and want to achieve things. Sport is supposed to be social, it doesn’t have to be something we suffer through and do alone and I think people need that today to get a release from the everyday pressures in life.”

Not only can Team Vitality members take part in the Ride Joburg and other amazing races at significantly discounted rates but recent studies show that exercising in groups does improve quality of life and reduces stress far more than when you exercise alone. Discovery's aim is to encourage people to take that leap and try a new sport. With evidence behind its behaviour change programme, Vitality helps achieve sustainable increases in activity, to support improved long term health benefits.

Team Vitality cyclists will also get a preferential start time during the Ride Joburg and upon completion will be able to relax in the designated Team Vitality VIP hospitality tent on event day.
