Press release —
Successful opening for Dancing Queen exhibition at ABBA The Museum
Following Friday’s preview, ABBA The Museum’s new Dancing Queen exhibition opened to the public on 11 October. The museum welcomed 1,457 visitors on opening day. The first images of the exhibition are now available.
For 50 years, Dancing Queen has inspired people around the world to dance. Now, the song takes centre stage in a new exhibition at ABBA The Museum in Stockholm, tracing its journey from the working title Boogaloo and the recording studio to the iconic performance at the Royal Swedish Opera in 1976 and its enduring appeal to new generations.
The celebrations began on Friday, 9 October. Hosted by Clabbe af Geijerstam and Kirsty Armstrong, the evening brought together invited guests to celebrate the song’s anniversary and enjoy a first look at the exhibition. The theme, “Disco meets Renaissance”, reflected the rebirth of an iconic moment – 50 years later. The exhibition opened to the public on 11 October.
“It has been wonderful to welcome our first visitors and see their reactions to the exhibition. Dancing Queen brings back so many memories, while also sparking curiosity about the story behind the music. We are delighted to now share that story with our visitors,” says Hanna Kimblad Einarsson, Museum Director at ABBA The Museum.
The exhibition brings together interviews, archival material, gold records and interactive elements. It also features newly created replicas of the stage costumes ABBA wore at the Royal Swedish Opera during the gala evening ahead of the royal wedding in 1976. The original garments came from the Opera’s costume collection and no longer survive. The exhibition explores both the song’s creation and how, over five decades, it has continued to be discovered, reinterpreted and woven into people’s own stories.

The exhibition has been open to visitors at ABBA The Museum on Djurgården in Stockholm since 11 October 2026.
