AkzoNobel divests its water treatment chemicals business in Finland

AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals (formerly Eka Chemicals) has agreed in principle to divest its water treatment chemicals business in Finland, including the related production facility in Oulu, to the Feralco Group. The transaction aims to be completed by the end of April 2013.

“We are very pleased to close this deal with Feralco, which is a company focused on growth of water treatment chemicals” says Byron Smith, Director Strategy and Transformation, AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals. “We foresee a very smooth transition for our customers, who will continue to receive the same high quality products and service in the future.”

“This acquisition provides us with access to the northern Finland market and allows us to build upon the activities of our Feralco Nordic AB business in the northern part of Sweden” says Stephen Childs, Managing Director of Feralco Europe North.

The planned divestment is in line with AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals new strategy launched earlier in 2012.
