Alkoholstöld på AkzoNobels anläggning i Bohus / Theft of alcohol from AkzoNobel’s Bohus facility

Cirka 150 liter 99,9% teknisk etanol (alkohol) har stulits vid AkzoNobel i Bohus. Stölden upptäcktes 19 juni och en polisanmälan har gjorts. Etanolen förvarades i ett låst utrymme på det inhägnade fabriksområdet. Låset till dörren är uppbrutet.

Etanolen är av teknisk kvalitet och innehåller 15 % isopropanol.  Isopropanol gör att etanolen luktar spolarvätska och är tillsatt för att göra etanolen mindre attraktiv att dricka.

Företaget befarar att etanolen säljs vidare och då är det framförallt den höga koncentrationen som gör att produkten är skadlig. 

-  Vid utspädning med vatten eller läskedryck så känns inte doften/smaken av spolarvätska på samma sätt. Midsommar närmar sig och vi vet att efterfrågan på alkohol ökar, och vi är oroliga för att detta säljs vidare till ungdomar, säger Marii Engberg, platschef AkzoNobel i Bohus. 

Företaget samarbetar med polisen i utredningen av stölden. 

Vid anläggningen i Bohus arbetar cirka 550 anställda och här finns även ett antal externa leverantörer.

Approximately 150 liters of 99.9 percent technical ethanol (alcohol) has been stolen from AkzoNobel in Bohus. The theft was discovered on June 19 and has been reported to the police. The ethanol was stored in a locked section of the fenced plant area. The lock on the door was forced open.

The ethanol is of a technical grade and contains 15 percent isopropanol. The isopropanol causes the ethanol to smell like windshield washer fluid and is added to make the ethanol less attractive for drinking.

The company is concerned that the ethanol will be re-sold – a particular worry being that the high concentration makes the product harmful.

“Diluted with water or a soft drink, the odor/taste of windshield washer fluid is less noticeable. With the Swedish midsummer holiday approaching, we are aware that demand for alcohol is rising and we are concerned that the ethanol will be sold to young people,” says Marii Engberg, Site Manager at AkzoNobel in Bohus.

The company is assisting the police in its investigation.

In addition to the approximately 550 employees at the Bohus facility, there are also a number of external suppliers.
